April 2006

  • Pat Dicaprio is the new Alumni Secretary. He’ll take over the website and Pentagon. Nobody likes my website, but at least I kept it updated. Pat will take over the maintenance of alumni addresses and alumni updates. Please keep in touch with me just because I’m a cool dude in a loose mood.
  • Alumni weekend was a good time despite the rainy weather. The rain dampened most of Saturday’s activities. The Shin Ozeni Award goes to Jeffrey Giunta ‘84, who came upfrom Florida. I hope he had a good time even though only a few of his contemporaries showed up for alumni weekend. “Big Dave” Borowicz was sucker-punched by an unknown person at the Ruck. Big Dave even had to go to the hospital to get stitches. He was surrounded by Pi Lams, at the timebut nobody knows who threw the puch or why. I’d also like to report that the new couches, new floors, and new railings on the front steps all looked great.
  • Eric Bluntzer moves locations as only Eric Bluntzer can: “I have successfully moved myself to West Virginia. With luck and salesmanship I should continue to be gainfully employed here as working in a NOC on contract for the Department of Vetrans Affairs. Without luck, I will spend the summer on the river. I have a phone. I am hooking it up. Next week I will even turn it on. I am getting internet access but still do not own a TV (fight the power).”
  • Dan Venditelli is moving from New England to Yuma, AZ because he as accepted the position as the city’s web administrator. My advice for Dan is to use lots of flying toasters and lots of Flash intros. Because everybody loves Flash intros.
  • John Grieco sent the following update. I must point out that he is one of the few alumni who provided the actual name of his spouse. So I may refer to her as “Melissa” rather than “Mrs. Grieco”: “I’m recently married (to Melissa). The wedding was in 12/18/04. We are living in Rye, NY with our dog, Tommy who is a Boxer. I’ve been working at Merrill Lynch in the Investment Banking and Client Technologies Group for over 10 years.”
  • The following new fraternity rules are being negotiated between RPI Dean’s Office and the Greeks. Yeah, nobody understand the point of number 3:1. No alcohol in public places, even if you’re over 21. Alcohol can only be consumed in your bedroom. Effective July 1, 2006

    2. Delayed Rush: Rush will begging the 6th week of the fall semester. Bids will be given out on the last day of class. Pledging begins in the spring semester and ends by spring break. (An 8 week pledging process.) Effective July 1, 2007

    3. Housing Director: We pay for somebody to live in our house and we give them a stipend. They are supposed to “advise, support, and assist with educational programming and management of chapter facility.”

  • Joe Cuda is getting married to Lina. I mean, the Space Cadet is getting married to the Lithuanian Laser: “Just wanted to share some exciting news with you all…Lina (aka The Lithuanian Laser) accepted my marriage proposal this past Monday (April 10th). :-) No wedding date has been determined, if you were wondering. Geez, give the young couple a day or two to enjoy the moment. AND…Yes, Lina cannot stop looking at her ring…hehehe.”
  • Norm Leach is getting married. I don’t know when, where, or to whom.
  • John Herman, BS Arch ‘66 sent in the following personal update: “Worked in various Engineering management positions with U.S.Steel between 1966- 1983 in Pittsburgh, San Francisco, Spain, Venezuela, Wyoming and Utah. Active in Boy Scouting in 60s thru 80s, including lots of backpacking, canoeing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and long distance cycling. Completed the Davis (CA) metric double-century ride (200KM). Still play most of the 60s folk instruments- guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, hammer dulcimer, and have fleeting memories of our ‘64-65 house band @ 248 Eighth Street attempting early Beatles and Dylan stuff. Master of Divinity from San Francisco Theological Seminary in 1987. Ordained by the United Church of Christ, serving churches in California, Utah and, now Tempe AZ. D.Min from San Francisco in 2002. Married to Holly since 1999. Daughter Missy, son Bill, grandson Jesse and another grandson expected by July 2006.”
  • John Herman also provided the following story about the coolest Pi Lam mascot ever: “By the way, the dog in the ‘64 photograph was Chip. Chip’s greatest achievement was attempting to mount the Delta Tau Delta’s St. Bernard on the field during an RPI homecoming football game.”
