- To the best of my knowledge, all NYKT alumni are safe and sound after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Thanks to everyone who contacted me and helped me track everyone down. I was surprised that so many people responded and I heard many compelling stories.
- Mark Rivinius used to work at the Pentagon, so I was happy to hear he was okay: “Here is a timeline of what I’ve been doing since I left RPI. I went to Flight School in Pensacola, but that didn’t work out. I actually soloed 3 times, but flying wasn’t for me. I then moved to Virginia and started working in the Pentagon supporting the Joint Staff “playing” with computers. I worked in the Pentagon for about 3+ years until 1995. In January of 1996 I got out of the Navy and started working for SAIC, my current employer. In July of 1992 I married Jennifer (Steve Bossy attended) and six years later in August 1998 we had our now 3 year old son Matthew. We are in the process of having a much bigger house built in Leesburg, Virginia, about 10 miles Northwest of Dulles airport. Hopefully it will be done by the end of October, but it will probably take until the end of November. We need to be in by the end of December, because that is when my second son, Daniel is due.”
- Mets catcher Choo Choo Coleman was once asked, “What’s your wife’s name? And what’s she like?” Choo Choo answered, “Her name is Mrs. Coleman, and she likes me.” The following long-awaited update came from Kevin Greaves ‘90, but he didn’t mention his wife’s name. I believe she attended an alumni weekend several years back, but I don’t remember her name. Then it struck me that her name, obviously, is “Mrs. Greaves”: “Well the short version is my life has twisted and turned over the last 11 years. I got married in May 1993. Had a little girl (Rowan - 1/3/94). Moved back to New York to work as a Safety Consultant. Bought a house in Port Jervis, NY 4/99. Had another little girl (Colleen - 6/2/99). Am presently working as a safety consultant for the public schools in Orange County NY.”
- I’m not sure how many pre-Internet alumni ever see this website, but I received a note from David Swedlow ‘67, and he is seeking classmates for a possible reunion. He provided me with contact information, as well as the following personal information: “Occupation: IT/Educational Consultant, for several clients, including Cleveland Scholarship Programs, Inc. Family: Married (now) to Cheryl Bass Swedlow (childhood friend since 1950) who is a dance/musical theatre artist-in-residence at the Cleveland School of the Arts. I have five children: Jennifer (31), a school guidance counselor, married to David (a logistics analyst) with grandson Matthew (1). Stephanie (27), an assistant stock broker, married to David (an automobile salesman), expecting a daughter in September. Kara (24), an engineer (CalTech) who is now taking a four-year international teaching fellowship based in Denmark. Rachel (18) graduated high school and will attend Bowling Green State Univ in Ohio this fall for education. Josh (16) HS junior-to-be and very active in musical theatre.”
- Fresh off the presses, Mike and Aileen Miller are new parents, and their daughter apparently already has more hair on her head than Barry Regan and Jason Haarman: “Aileen gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on Sept 1. Anastasia Helen Miller came into the world at 3:00 PM (yes, exactly 3:00). She was 19″ long, weighed 6 lbs 14 oz, and has a full head of hair.”
- Karl Oestreich is still involved with the fraternity at the International Headquarters and also with the NYKT chapter. He is living in Eastern Pennsylvania and working in New Jersey. In a blast from our collegiate past, he and I recently went to a John “Dr. Dirty” Valby show in New Brunswick, NJ. I’m not sure if I’m proud or ashamed, but it was fun.
- Chris Brinton emailed me with the following update: “Erin and I have been happily married for 4 years now and are enjoying raising our son Nathan who was born on 8/1/99. Plenty of pictures to be seen at http://www.brinton.net. We’re currently living in Greenwich, CT and contemplating a move back to Boston. After a rollercoaster stint at a internet startup, Im back to consulting.”
- Jason Mele is living in Queens (Mets country) and rooting for the Yankees. He is enjoying a surprisingly successful career for a consulting firm in NYC.
- George Ramos is living in Queens and working for the American Museum of Natural History. His job has absolutely nothing to do with engineering.
- KTAA President Don Murphy and his wife Kelly had their first baby, Paige Elizabeth Murphy. Birthdate 5/11/01.
- Mark Hulscher is recently engaged to Rachel. He is living in Seattle. He took her sailing and put “will you marry me” on the sail. Typical Hulscher!
- Rich White recently visited Africa after finishing his MD at Yale. Or maybe his PhD. He’s both. In any case, he is a good doctor and also a good cook.
- Greg Recine is living in New Jersey and finishing up his schoolwork at Stevens Institute of Technology. I think it is a PhD in Physics.
- Ed Klein is living in North Carolina and working in Charlotte, playing lots of hockey and golf, and working for First Union bank.
